New Patients One of most common types of tooth extractions is a surgical extraction. Our dentists, Dr. Myvan Tran and associates, may perform a surgical extraction in Alexandria, Virginia if a tooth has yet to come in, or is impacted, which means it cannot erupt from the bone or gum tissue. Surgical extractions are often necessary to remove wisdom teeth. A surgical extraction may be needed if a fragment of a tooth root has been left in the jaw following a simple extraction. A surgical extraction may be required if a tooth is broken close to or below the gumline or has very long or curved roots making it difficult to remove. In some cases, the tooth may need to be removed in pieces. To perform a surgical extraction, the dentist will need to cut through gum and perhaps even bone tissue to reach the tooth or the fragment. Our dentists will make sure that you are comfortable during your visit and give you aftercare instructions to help you recover.
